LYCA WOMEN’S T20 LEAGUE 2025 – MATCHDAY 2 PREVIEW
Saturday, June 7, 2025
THE BUILD-UP!
With the opening weekend now in the books, Matchday Two of the Lyca Women’s T20 League 2025 barrels in with fierce local rivalries, key squad absentees, and redemption arcs. Three intriguing fixtures across both groups will test squad depth as several stars remain on international duty at the Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament in Kigali. There's no room for excuses. Expect fire, flair, and fierce fightbacks this Saturday.
SATURDAY – JUNE 7, 2025 – GROUP A FIXTURE
Tornado vs Tornado Bee – Entebbe Cricket Oval – 10am & 2pm
Rare Rivals, Fresh Stakes
In a unique clash at the lakeside oval, Tornado Bee open their 2025 campaign against a stung Tornado side still reeling from two defeats to Wanderers on Matchday One.
The Bees welcome headline addition Sandra Achawo, the ex-Soroti City and 2022 U-19 World Cup Qualifier campaigner, injecting experience and calm to their setup. However, they’ll sorely miss 2024 MVP Teddy Oyella, who remains on national duty in Kigali.
Tornado, though wounded, are not without potential. Coach Shama Mukaaya will hope the lessons from last weekend translate into better execution. Bragging rights and early momentum are on the line in this key clash.
JACC vs Jinja SS – Jinja SS Oval – 10am & 2pm
Jinja Derby Delivers Local Drama
It’s the battle for Busoga as student-heavy sides Jinja SS and JACC go head-to-head in a derby at their shared home ground. JACC, coached by Sadam Oyaga, return after a rough opening day, having fallen twice to title hopefuls Olila. Meanwhile, Habibu Mugalula’s Jinja SS squad makes its long-awaited 2025 debut.
The derby misses several national stars - Kevin Awino, Immaculate Nakisuyi, and Rita Musamali (JACC), and Stephanie Nampiina (Jinja SS) - all away in Rwanda. But that only opens doors for hidden gems to step up in a high-stakes rivalry match. A battle for pride, points, and position – the Jinja Derby is as unpredictable as it is unmissable.
Africa CC vs Olila – Lugogo Cricket Oval – 10am & 2pm
Depth Check for Title Chasers
After a dream start, Olila CC shift base to Lugogo to face Africa Cricket Club (ACC), who are chasing their first points after a tough debut against Mukono Development. ACC are without all-rounder Sarah Walaza and former skipper Consy Aweko, both absent from the squad this season as they’re on national duty. Their youthful core must punch above weight against a seasoned Olila side.
Olila will also be without stars Phiona Kulume and Kevin Amuge, but still boast a potent mix: Schools Week MVP Immaculate Nandera, and national team hopefuls Lorna Anyait and Malisa Ariokot bring enough firepower to keep Olila’s unbeaten start alive. Will ACC spring a surprise, or will Olila roll on?
FINAL WORD
As the Lyca Women’s T20 2025 enters its second weekend, the script is already evolving.
Can Tornado Bee make a flying start? Who reigns in the Jinja Derby? Will Africa CC halt Olila’s march?
The spotlight shifts to the supporting cast this weekend — a golden chance for new stars to emerge and fringe players to stake their claim.
