Tour Summary

Uganda win eight match series 7-1

QUICK POINTERS

  1. It was the last game of the tour for the Cricket Cranes who have played a whopping 13 games in 17 days (including the traveling days from Uganda, Qatar, India and back to Uganda).
  2. Uganda were chasing a rare clean sweep having already surged into a 7-0 lead.
  3. Coach Steve Tikolo rested captain Roger Mukasa, wicketkeeper Fred Achelam and left-arm opening bowler Charles Waiswa to give the youngsters another chance to strut out their stuff.
  4. There was an interesting twist to the squad line up as Brian Masaba wore the captain’s arm band for the third time on the tour. U-19 left hand batsman Steve Wabwose took the wicketkeeping gloves to give Achelam a much-needed chance to rest his gloves.
  5. The Ugandans expressed some gritty batting early on after an early collapse at 19 for 2. Tour revelation Simon Ssesazi was among the runs with another 33 which was beautified by a straight six over the sight screen but it was unfortunate that he didn’t convert it.
  6. Uganda set 151 runs in the allotted 40 overs thanks to some hard-running from the tail-enders.
  7. In the second innings, Masaba and company pushed the opposing – Sterling Generators C.C from a small town called Silvassa in Dadra and Nagarhaveli State which was 72 kilometers from the team’s base in Chikhil, Sanjay Farm – to the wire in the nail-biter.
  8. Like many previous close shaves, it was pressure-cooker rubber but Jiten Ramanandi, who claimed three wickets in the first innings, made the difference in the second innings as well with an unbeaten knock of 37 runs not out off 49 balls to guide his local team to one wicket victory with two balls to spare.
  9. Despite Emmanuel Isaneez (2/25 in 7.4) leaking nine runs off the last over’s first four balls when the opposition needed just six, Uganda will rue a couple of gilt edged run-out and catching chances that were missed.
  10. The tour scorecard reads 7-1 for the India Tour Series and 9-4 overall in favour of the Cricket Cranes with the Bilateral Qatar Series included which should be a big plus to team looking to scale the heights again. The team is preparing for the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cricket League (WCL) Division IV in Malaysia due April 28 – May 5.
