There is change in stripe for Uganda’s senior men’s national cricket team - The Cricket Cranes.
From the predominantly black and red jersey the team wore during the forgettable Division III International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cricket League (WCL) in Kampala last May, the team has changed back to the a primarily yellow and red stripe for the ongoing Division IV campaign in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
“We are not entirely quashing our black and red jersey,” said captain Team Manager Jackson Kavuma.
“We will use it alongside this one. Like you see other side like England, Australia and New Zealand have at least two kits. We decided to bring this yellow into the picture because Malaysia is hot place and wearing black would put our players under cosh further.
Yellow is bright
“Yellow is bright and will bounce off some of the heat. The jersey has been made by Omtex, an ICC-Sanctioned Equipment and Clothing Merchandise Vendor. They sold the stuff to us on the cheap and we thank Mr Swetal Desai and Nishad Kora of Omtex, who ensured the partnership works.”
The Roger Mukasa-captained side will be hoping that the new apparel will bring good luck to the team that has endured mixed fortunes on the pitch lately.
The last the national team was in Malaysia, they qualified for Division II in 2014 as Mukasa won the Most Valuable Player Accolade with 265 runs and 13 wickets.
The kit received by every player and technical staff member included a snap-back cap, short-sleeved sweater, two sets of playing jersey, two sets of warm-up kit and a travel track-suit.
The jersey has also got good reviews from all and sundry both in Malaysia and back in Uganda as a trendy kit worth they hype of the Cricket Cranes.
Unfortunately the jersey unveiling didn’t come with an luck as the Cricket Cranes suffered a slim nine-run defeat Malaysia in the opening game of the Division IV tournament at Kinrara Academy Oval on April 29.
