By Denis Musali

In a bid to qualify for their second appearance at the global qualifiers en route to the 2023 Women's World Cup the Lady Cricket Cranes are looking for a new head coach. The new coach will not only be tasked with training the ladies for also developing a high-performance program for the ladies' national team.

The Lady Cricket Cranes failed at the last attempt in 2019 in Zimbabwe a tournament in which they were the defending champions. Since 2017 when they were crowned African Champions and qualified for the global qualifiers in the Netherlands where they finished fifth out of eight teams. The team was under the tutelage of Michael Ndiko and Habib Mugalula then but the success in 2017 was achieved by Francis Ndege and Grace Mutyagaba.

The Lady Cricket Cranes will have to battle 10 other teams in Botswana in October and they will need to be the top team for them to move on to the next round of the qualification process. At the global qualifiers, the regional winners will come up against the two bottom ODI nations as they fight for only two places to join the World Cup proper.

Thailand shocked the cricket world by coming through these qualifiers at the expense of Ireland and participate in their 1st ever World Cup in Australia. In 2018 Uganda was able to defeat Thailand and finished ahead of them on the final table standings.

Zimbabwe and Namibia will be the main rivals for Uganda in Botswana and the new head coach will need to prepare with that hindsight in mind.
