The Baby Victoria Pearls will battle seven other teams for the right to represent Africa at the 2025 U-19 World Cup in Malaysia. Uganda is in Group A alongside hosts Rwanda, Namibia, and Kenya, the tournament will run from September 20th – 30th.
The Baby Victoria Pearls finished fourth in 2022 in Botswana and will look for better fortune in Rwanda. The top two sides in each group will qualify for the semifinals and the winner of the final will earn the right to represent Africa.
The Baby Victoria Pearls side has at least seven players who were at the qualifiers in Botswana and their experience will be key for the team. Lorna Anyait, Malisa Ariokot, Immaculate Nandera, Patricia Timong, Akurut Asumin, and Captain Jimia Mohammad have experience playing for the Victoria Pearls.
“The team has prepared very well; we have had sufficient time to prepare the girls and be champions. We expect stiff competition from all the teams but as long as we do what we have to do well we should do well. The goal for us is to go to the World Cup.” Yusuf Nanga – Head Coach U-19 Girls Team.
The team will travel to Rwanda on Friday 20th and play their 1st game on the 22nd against Namibia.
