2025 UCA NATIONAL MEN’S 50 OVER LEAGUE – MATCHDAY 8 PREVIEW
Weekend of May 24-25, 2025

THE BUILD-UP!

As Matchday 8 rolls in, the 2025 UCA National Men’s 50 Over League delivers another crucial weekend of action across both divisions. While some teams chase championship glory, others are scrambling to avoid the drop. From old scores to settle to fresh battles never witnessed before, expect high stakes, bold performances, and major shifts on the points tables.

SATURDAY – MAY 24, 2025 – DIVISION ONE FIXTURE

Rounders CC vs Wanderers – Lugogo Cricket Oval – 10am
Tale of Two Timelines

A familiar rivalry is reignited as Wanderers seek to break their winless duck against a Rounders side still licking their wounds. The last time these two clashed in high-stakes action was the 2024 Uganda Premier League T20 Final - where Wanderers edged home by just three runs in a low-scoring thriller.

Fast forward to 2025, and it’s Wanderers who are battling form and availability, with key men like Didier Ndikubimana and Martin Akayezu absent due to Rwandan league commitments. They come off a deflating loss to Ceylon Lions, fielding just nine players. Rounders, on the other hand, have two wins under their belt and could welcome back star names for this grudge match. Word is rife that Cricket Cranes experienced wicket-keeper-cum-batsman could make a debut for Wanderers.

Can Wanderers conjure some old magic, or will Rounders take revenge?

SUNDAY – MAY 25, 2025 – DIVISION ONE FIXTURES

Kutchi Tigers vs Aboojo – Lugogo Cricket Oval – 10am
Table-Toppers vs Rebuilders

Kutchi Tigers are cruising at the summit with 9 points from 5 games and are undefeated so far. Fresh from a dominant win over Wanderers, they look well-oiled and ruthless—Hasin Ashani's unbeaten 90 last match being a testament to that.

Aboojo, mid-table and inconsistent, face an uphill task. Past meetings have gone firmly Kutchi’s way, including a 9-wicket shellacking in 2024. This clash might be another masterclass unless Aboojo pull off something special.

Ceylon Lions vs Avengers – Serenity Oval, Kamengo – 10am
First-Ever Duel with Points at Stake

Ceylon Lions (3W, 1L, 1T) are in second place and flying high after a comprehensive win over Wanderers. Avengers, meanwhile, are languishing in 7th with just one win. This is their first meeting in the 50-Over format, and form favours the Lions.

Still, Avengers are dangerous when underestimated. With relegation looming, expect them to play with urgency. Ceylon Lions, though, remain favourites on paper and also boast of home advantage.

DIVISION TWO – SUNDAY, MAY 25, 2025

Soroti City vs Patidar – Entebbe Cricket Oval – 10am
First Dance for the Big Dreamers

Group A high-flyers Soroti City are brimming with confidence after strong wins over Jinja SS and Budo. Their blend of youthful flair and mature heads makes them one of the teams to watch.

Patidar, on the other hand, remain an enigma - having not played a full match this season. Their walkover win is the only thing on record. Can they rise to the occasion, or will Soroti City storm ahead with their emerging talents from the Soroti Cricket Academy hub?

Mukono Warriors vs St. John’s SS – Jinja SS Oval – 10am
Momentum vs Resilience

Mukono Warriors are flying after their monstrous 229-run win over Mukono Development. St. John’s SS have shown grit with two ties and a win in their first three. Both are in rhythm, and this first-time fixture could swing either way.

Mukono Development vs SKLPS – Florida Oval – 10am
Form Meets Desperation

After Fahad Mutagana’s blistering 115 in their last win, Mukono Development look a revived unit with 2 wins from 4. SKLPS are struggling after a 170-run loss to GM Sugar, but with names like Yogesh Rabadiya in the mix, they remain capable of surprises.

Kutchi Tigers B vs Entale – GM Sugar Oval, Njeru – 10am
Debutants Battle It Out

Top of Group A with 2 wins from 2, Kutchi Tigers B have made a dream start to life in Division Two. Entale have yet to complete a match—rain washing out two encounters—but they’ll hope their campaign finally begins with a bang.

FINAL WORD

Matchday 8 has it all - revenge plots, high-stakes debuts, top-of-the-table drama, and survival six-pointers. With every point precious and momentum everything, this weekend promises unforgettable moments from Uganda’s cricketing frontlines.
