Busoga College Mwiri and Kololo SSS Share the 2014 Schools Cricket Week Trophy

When it was mentioned that the Pepsi Schools Cricket Tournament would be interesting, no one said that it would be dramatic as well. The tournament 2014 will go down in history as one where the winners’ trophy was shared by the finalists. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Kololo SS were struggling at 41/6 after 11.4 overs when the skies opened to unleash one of the heaviest rains recorded in Kampala this year. This should have come as a relief to Kololo SS who were happy to walk off and disrupt the rhythm of Busoga College Mwiri’s fiery opening pace attack of Collins Okwalinga and David Wabwire. The latter had figures of 4/10 in 3.4 overs when the rains came down.

The rains did not stop until it was too late to record the mandatory 5 overs to have a result. If it were possible to have 5 overs bowled by Kololo SS, then it would have come down to Duckworth and Lewis revision of the scores.

The Game was therefore a wash out. However since there was no reserve day, both teams were happy to share the prestigious trophy which had eluded them for quite some time. For the record Busoga College Mwiri had last won the trophy in 2009 and Kololo in 2012. The Closing Ceremony was presided over by Mr. John Nagenda, The Senior Presidential Advisor on Media and Communication Affairs as well as a former Cricketer.
