Press Release WCL Div III

See Attachment for Details

Cricket Cranes and Tornado B opening bowler Charles Waiswa and KICC’s batting all-rounder John Tumusiime have been banned by Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) for six matches.

The bans were issued last Wednesday by the UCA Disciplinary Committee. The two players were involved in a brawl during their teams’ National Twenty20 League quarterfinal clash at Kyambogo Oval on April 6.
The committee found them guilty of physical assault and acts of violence. In that fiery rubber that saw KICC win by 10 runs, left-arm seamer Waiswa (3/15) allegedly hurled obscenities at Tumusiime (33 off 26) before the pair went physical.

Their short-lived brawl was in the 16th over of the first innings as KICC set 116. In a communique to the press, the committee led by Robert Kisubi said the pair had committed a Level 4 offence and would serve a six-match ban with immediate effect.

“Waiswa and Tumusiime are also not allowed at any UCA premises which include all grounds, cricket nets and Nakawa Secretariat,” read part of the statement.

Waiswa forthwith missed last weekend’s eight-run win over Nile and is ineligible to play against Challengers, Charity TF, Rounders, Wanderers and Jinja SS in the Division I National 50-over League.

Likewise, Tumusiime missed his club’s one-run triumph over SKLPS and will not play five more Division II games against Mwiri, Makerere University, Premier, Kutchi Tigers and Patidar Samaj. Both players will be out for approximately three months.

“We will miss Waiswa but we already have a back-up plan,” said Tornado B captain Jeremy Kibuukamusoke, who was left mulling by the decision, said.
Efforts to reach KICC captain Hanumant Katkar were futile.

According to their club fixtures, the pair will make their return at the end of July. The pair’s form will be affected as Daily Monitor has learnt that they were on national coach Davis Turinawe’s radar as potential picks for African Six-Aside Sixes Tournament in South Africa due in September.

Tornado in final chance

Cricket. Ssematimba, with an average of 58 runs in three innings this month, is confident they will overcome sister side in today’s 30-over League final.

Lawrence Ssematimba may be a disappointed man after failing to make the team to the on-going ICC Global Twenty20 Global World Cup Qualifiers in UAE. But the 30-year-old is not entirely upset. The Tornado B batsman cum wicket-keeper is delighted to have found some form with the bat lately.

Ssematimba has averaged 58 runs in three innings this month after making scores of 91, 40 and 42 against Charity Trust Fund and Rounders in the 50-Over League.

Seven days ago, his score of 42 gave Tornado B the upper hand over ACC to reach the National 30-Over League final in which they face sister side Tornado at Kyambogo today.

“I feel I am in good stead,” Ssematimba told Saturday Monitor as he did some press-ups at Lugogo on Thursday evening. “I want to keep this shape and form so as to win my place back to the national fold,” he added.

But before retaining his slot, Ssematimba wants to exhibit his form against a Tornado side that wants to add some silverware to their cabinet having failed to retain the National T20 League and 50-over titles.

Despite Tornado missing key players Frank Nsubuga, Arthur Kyobe, Richard Okia and Raymond Otim, Ssematimba and teammates will need to negotiate new leg-break bowler Salim Afridi and U-19 left-arm spinner Mohammed Akmal. “We may look depleted on paper but our never-say-die’character will get us victory. This is our last chance to restore parity in such a doomed season.” Tornado stand-in skipper Grace Mutyagaba said.

Gloves man Mutyagaba will have Deus Muhumuza and veteran Benjamin Musoke as his main batsmen against a bowling unit of Cyrus Kibuukamusoke and Akbar Baig.
