UG20 Day Two Preview:

After a thrilling opening weekend, the Men’s UG20 Tournament heads into Day Two with defending champions returning to the fold, rising teams looking to solidify their positions, and some sides already facing must-win scenarios.

With pride, points, and early knockout implications on the line, the coming weekend promises another exciting chapter in Uganda’s top T20 competition.

Saturday 27th September

Wanderers vs Tornado Bee – Entebbe Cricket Oval

The defending champions of the UG20 league will kick off their title defense against Tornado Bees at the lake side oval in Entebbe.

Despite being relegated from the domestic 50-over league earlier this year, Wanderers head into this year’s UG20 with something to prove — and everything to gain.

Last season, they stunned the competition by defeating some favorites in Kutchi Tigers, Ceylon Lions, and Rounders to lift the trophy.

With 50-over glory out of reach, this tournament is their only shot at silverware in 2025.

Tornado Bee will hope to spoil the party early and steal momentum in Group A.

Tornado vs Jinja SS – Jinja SS Cricket Oval

Two winless sides, Tornado and Jinja SS, face off in Jinja in what already feels like a do-or-die contest.

Jinja SS struggled in the Jinja derby last Saturday, losing twice to JACC, while Tornado — last year’s semi-finalists — failed to hold off a sharp Avengers side on Sunday.

With both sides desperate to stay relevant in the Group C race, expect a tense battle.

Sunday 28th September

Avengers vs Ismaili – Entebbe Cricket Oval

Avengers, having won twice against Tornado Cricket Club last weekend, return to Entebbe looking to continue their strong start.

Their opponents, Ismaili Community, split their matches last Sunday — one loss and one win against Premier — and now face a real test against a well-drilled Avengers unit.

With Avengers currently second in Group C, victory here could solidify their place in the knockout rounds.

JACC vs Premier – Jinja SS Cricket Oval

JACC return home after a dominant opening weekend, having swept Jinja SS with back-to-back wins by 100 and 101 runs.

This week, they will receive walkover points following Premier's withdrawal and the subsequent cancellation of the match

GM Sugar vs SKLPS – GM Sugar Oval

Fresh off winning the Division Two trophy, GM Sugar begin their T20 journey at home in Nyenga against SKLPS.

It’s a clash between a team riding high and another desperate to recover — SKLPS suffered twin defeats to Budo last Sunday and will want to get back on track quickly.

But GM Sugar, in their first UG20 appearance, will be full of confidence after a successful 50-over campaign and eager to make a big first impression.

Ceylon vs Kutchi Tigers – Serenity Oval Kamengo

Last year’s semi-finalists, Ceylon Lions, face off with 2024 quarter-finalists Kutchi Tigers in what could be the marquee matchup of the weekend.

Both teams were knocked out by Wanderers last season and have since developed a fierce competitive edge.

Their rivalry was on full display during the 50-over league, which was eventually won by Kutchi Tigers — including a 74-run win in a low-scoring affair in their last meeting.

Playing on home turf, Ceylon will be keen to turn the tables and make a strong Group D statement and they have home advantage.

Patidar vs Afica Cricket Club – Florida Oval

Africa Cricket Club, who lost their two opening games to Mukono Development, return to the same ground hoping for a better result.

They’ll take on Patidar CC with a boosted squad after registering new players during the week. After a disappointing start, ACC will be eager to show improvement, but Patidar will look to capitalize on any lingering vulnerabilities.

What to Watch

This weekend presents a critical early checkpoint for teams across all four groups.

Can Wanderers shake off their 50-over form and defend their UG20 crown?

Will Avengers and JACC keep up their unbeaten runs?

And how will the always-tense clash between Ceylon and Kutchi Tigers unfold?

As the second matcday gets underway, the stakes grow higher — and the journey to T20 glory becomes even more intense.
