Press Release:
Two hundred girls and boys from local schools will enjoy free cricket coaching over the next two weeks. This is thanks to the charity Cricket Without Boundaries who will be introducing cricket in four schools and organising two cricket festivals in the next fortnight.
The CWB staff are all cricket loving volunteers who are visiting the area to show their love for “the greatest game in the world.” They will be sharing their enthusiasm and passing on skills by organising fun-filled sessions on batting, bowling, catching and throwing. They aim to instil girls and boys with a love of cricket and of being part of a team.
Importantly, CWB will be working with local PE teachers and coaches to pass on techniques and tips for future development of the game.
CWB Team Leader Mark Campbell says “Cricket in Uganda is poised for a great future. For the first time the national team has qualified for the T20 World Cup. This will be played in the Caribbean later this year. We hope the girls and boys we’ll be working with following the fortunes of the team and will be inspired to take up the game for themselves. Some may even go onto become professional players or coaches themselves. Above all, we hope the young people will develop the same love for the game that the nine CWB volunteers and local staff all have.
"We are excited to have Cricket Without Boundaries visiting us again, CWB have been critical development partners in helping us spread the game in different parts of the country. They have been key in helping us increase our capacity in terms of coaches and also empowering some of the volunteers that we work with through out the year. Their spring visit will majorly focus on our programs in North East with visit to Kumi, Jinja and Lugazi. We are working with the different hubs in these areas such as Keere Cricket Academy (Kumi), East Enders (Jinja) to make sure that the trip is a success. We look forward to the visit and making sure that we touch some souls". Grace Mutyagaba - Development Officer Uganda Cricket Association
CWB works with partners around the world to grow the game of cricket and using the sport as a platform for health education and social change. It is run almost entirely by the dedication and enthusiasm of its volunteers. Founded in 2005, CWB is one of the world's leading cricket development charities.
