The MCC Foundation team is led by Dr. Sarah Fane OBE, Chief Executive Officer of MCC Foundation, the delegation also includes Mr. Angus Berry, Head of Operations, and Mr. James Bailey, Head of Communications. They will spend five days in the country to visit programs in Gulu and Masindi that the MCC foundation looks after.
The MCC Foundation is contributing significantly to Gulu and Masindi regions in Uganda through various initiatives aimed at empowering youth, fostering unity, and promoting well-being. Their efforts include:
1. Offering free coaching and match play to help children and adolescents reach their full potential in cricket.
2. Uniting and inspiring local communities while encouraging physical and mental health among participants.
3. Providing a safe space for girls since the region is undergoing recovery from the LRA war, thereby enhancing community cohesion through cricket.
4. Creating platforms for skill development, socialization, and physical wellness, which bridge gaps and foster personal growth within the communities.
5. Contributing to community resilience as a result of these programs.
"These endeavors are part of the MCC Foundation's broader mission to use sport as a tool for positive change, particularly in areas where conflict or poverty pose significant challenges - Grace Mutyagaba Development Officer - Northern Hub"
"We are the charitable arm of the MCC, we are in Uganda to view the work that we have been supporting for the last 18 months. We have been funding the development of cricket in Gulu and Masindi by funding, coaching, equipment and supporting young people to see the social impact and benefit of the game of cricket . We are delighted to be working with Uganda and our partners Cricket Without Boundaries and the amazing coaches in Gulu. We have visited some schools and community sessions and if the 1st session is anything to go by then we are impressed by what we have seen and the development of cricket in this region will hopefully strengthen Ugandan cricket and the national team in the long term - Angus Berry Head of Operations MCC"
