QUICK POINTERS
1. After the much-earned day off festivities and community/charity work by Team Uganda, captain Roger Mukasa and his teammates came back refreshed to hunt for their fourth successive victory.
2. Earlier scheduled as a 40-over game against Surat District Cricket Association XI, the match was unable to take off on time because of a freak accident suffered by the local team on their way to the Sanjay Farm Oval.
3. When the team finally showed up at midday, the umpires advised that a Twenty20 game be played, instead. There was no luck for Roger Mukasa at the toss for the umpteenth time on this Indian Leg of the tour.
4. Stylish left-hand top order batsman Simon Ssesazi was the only youngster to emerge out of the dug out as coach Steve Tikolo announced a full-strength squad with all the big boys returning - having sat out the one-wicket victory against Surat District C.A’s U-19 side.
5. Surat’s opening batsmen Mehul Kalsaria (12 off 11) and Vinet Joshi (19 off 30) started their innings like a house on fire going after Uganda’s opening bowlers Emmanuel Isaneez (2/18) and Charles Waiswa (1/24) as they reached 16 in two overs. But once the two pacemen got to know the two batsmen weren’t comfortable with short balls, they exploited them to full effect and reaped the dividends as the local team collapsed to 25 for 3.
6. There was a brave knock of 50 from Surat’s captain Badal Mangukiya, who remained unbeaten at one end with slow-ball master Deus Muhumuza (2/21) limiting the late carnage to 115 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs.
7. In the second innings, Surat deployed five spinners and shuffled them expertly, having known that Uganda’s batting was always fragile facing spin but were undone by lack of enough runs on board.
8. Hamu Kayondo didn’t trouble the scoreboard in the previous two games but he backed up himself and produced a match winning unbeaten knock of 56 runs off 46 balls to take the Man of Match award. His captain Roger Mukasa was at the other end and offered able support in an 89-run opening stand constructed in just 11.3 overs. When Mukasa got himself needlessly run out, Dinesh Nakrani enjoyed a little cameo of 16 not out off 15 balls that comprised of two boundaries as Uganda made it four wins in as many matches.
9. Tomorrow, the Cricket Cranes play two Twenty20s including a highly-anticipated one against a star-studded Baroda franchise.
