Uganda has started preparations for the U-19 girls Qualifiers due in August 2024 in Kigali Rwanda by inviting 25 players for a high performance training camp in Jinja.
The 10 day training camp has players selected from the just concluded girls schools cricket week that happened in Soroti. The most impressive players from the camp will constitute the training squad for the U-19 girls team that will continue preparations for the qualifiers due in August in Kigali.
The camp is being handled by U-19 Girls Head Coach Yusuf Nanga, Assistant Coach Ivan Kakande and East Enders Head Coach Sadam Oyaga.
We saw a lot talent at the schools cricket week tournament in Soroti but unfortunately we could only have 25 players in this camp. However, we want to help the girls to improve on their skills in all three skills of the game. The camp also helps them to get to know each other more and build friendships that can help the team. Uganda finished 4th a the 1st U-19 girls qualifiers in Botswana in 2021 in a tournament that was won by Rwanda. The early preparations are to enable the youngsters improve on that performance and earn a ticket to the World Cup in Malaysia next year as the representative for the rest of Africa.
